Kumarathunga Munidasa's 125th birth anniversary

The 125th birth anniversary commoration of late scholar Kumarathunga Munidasa was held at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute under the patronage of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

The ceremony was chaired by Kumarathunga Munidasa Foundation founder Ven. Ahangama Mahinda Thera. Dr. Gunadasa Amarasekara delivered the keynote address under the title of "importance of Kumarathunga's thinking".

Education Minister Bandula Gunawardena also addressed the gathering. Kumarathunga Munidasa Memorial Scholarship which is awarded to the student who obtained the best results in Sinhala Language and Sinhala Literature at GCE O/L was won by Ayodya Rathnayake, a student of Newstead Balika Mahavidyalaya, Negombo.

A cash prize of Rs. 100.000 under the sponsorship of National Savings Bank was awarded to the the student at the ceremony.

Veteran vocalists Edward Jayakody and Elbert Fernando contributed with some songs. Deputy Minister Geethanjana Gunawardena was also present.
