UK team wins CIMA Business Challenge

The UK team won the championship of the 2012 CIMA Global Business
Challenge held at the Mount Lavinia Hotel on Tuesday, while Australia
and New Zealand secured second and third places respectively.

GBC an international business management competition designed to
bring out the very best in the next generation of business leaders and
the event brought together some of the best young talents from 22
countries and regions, along with high profile business leaders and
employers from around the world. Speaking to Daily News Business, CIMA
UK Managing Director Andrew Harding said Sri Lanka can be proud about
their CIMA students who were selected to be one of the best 22 teams in
the world at this event.
Sri Lanka now has around 4,000 CIMA students which was not the case a
few years ago. Now they are doing a great service locally as well as
internationally.
Within Sri Lanka it has expanded from Colombo to Kandy and now moving
to Trincomalee and Jaffna, and there are a large number of CIMA
qualified Sri Lankan students in UK as well.
Asked what were the future challenges for CIMA students with the
increasing number of young people following CIMA courses he said they
need to keep updating continuously and be observant on what role they
could have to played in financial management.
The GBC 2012 competition was held in three stages and the teams
competed amongst peers within their country or region at the early
stages.
The winning team then arrived in Sri Lanka to the global final,
representing their country or region in the battle for the global
championship title. The three stages included case study analysis,
synopsis and presentation and presentation global final.
