Illegal butchers bailed out
Two suspects arrested for running an illegal slaughterhouse in
Nawalapitiya were released on Rs 100,000 personal bail by the
Nawalapitiya magistrate. The next hearing will be on July 20.
Wanted suspects arrested
Five suspects were arrested by the Meetiyagoda Police on Saturday and
Monday in connection with three robberies in Meetiyagoda.
Police said the suspects had threatened people at gun point to rob
valuables on three occasions from April 2 to June 23 .
Jewellery worth over Rs 1,500,000, a knife and a 9 mm revolver with
two bullets were seized from their possession.
The Balapitiya magistrate remanded three suspects until July 26 while
the other two were remanded until July 30.
Meetiyagoda Police are investigating.
Boy electrocuted
A 17-year-old boy died of electrocution in Udapussallewa on Monday.
Investigations revealed that the boy who was alone at home in
Ambagahaliyadde, Ambakumbura had tried to install an electric wire
outside the home to get rid of monkeys.
The body was sent to the Nuwara Eliya hospital morgue for the
postmortem.
Nabbed with fake notes
A suspect was arrested with nine Rs 500 denomination and a Rs 1,000
denomination fake notes at the Raddolugama housing scheme on Saturday.
The Police also seized a computer and accessories that the suspect
used to print the fake notes.
He was produced before the Negambo magistrate yesterday.
Unidentified body found
Police found a body of an unidentified man near Alawwa railway
station on Monday.
Alawwa Police suspect he was hit by a train.
The 7'1" tall person with a beard appeared to be 45 year. He was in a
white T-shirt and shorts. The body was sent to the Alawwa hospital
morgue.
Monk remanded
The chief incumbent of a leading temple in Tanamalwila arrested for
treasure hunting was remanded until July 24 by the Walasmulla
magistrate. Tangalle artifacts protection unit is investigating.
