He said, in ethnicity vice, majority of the population in the
province are Muslims and the rest are Tamils and Sinhalese.
The TMVP also contests with the UPFA. The UPFA will be able to get
over 65 per cent of the total votes in the Eastern PC according to the
latest calculations.
This time all ethnicities will be united under UPFA banner to contest
in the Eastern PC.
The SLFP has completed the reorganization process of the party and
planned special strategies for Tamil dominant areas. Politically the
UPFA is stable in all three PCs.
The UPFA will definitely win all three Provincial Councils (PCs) and
the government is confident about its victory. A massive development has
already taken place in all the three provinces due to numerous
development drives launched by the government. The Opposition is in a
very weak position while the government is strong and receives the
support of the other political parties.
Minister Premajayantha pointed out that the Sri Lankan people have
full confidence on President Mahinda Rajapaksa. With all the challenges,
still the people can see the development that has been taken place.
Investors are coming. Tourism is growing. Infrastructure facilities are
being developed countrywide. Roads, expressways, harbours, airports,
hospitals, schools, etc are being constructed. These are the direct
results of the leadership and the policies of the government. It takes
some time to elevate the country’s economy after 30 years of war. Now
people are looking forward for the quality of life. The Opposition is
weak. The Opposition takes up a slogan time to time. Once it was the
price of oil. Now it is that a government cannot adjust oil price on
daily basis.
The opposition has a very limited number of slogans now. Drought,
crime rate, z-score were some of them. The Opposition does not have a
concrete argument and especially a strong leadership to challenge the
Government. So what can be expected from such an Opposition ?, Minister
Premajayantha questioned.
