NTB contributes towards community
Nations Trust Bank (NTB) despite being a relatively new player in Sri
Lanka has made considerable strides in achieving and ensuring
sustainable growth. Its operations are in fact geared and designed to
create new opportunities for a variety of social groups.
The beginning of the Bank’s drive towards sustainable growth is
rooted in the knowledge that in the end finance and its entire gamut of
activity is about realizing people’s dreams and ambitions in some form.
To this end, NTB contributes towards the community in which it operates
by not only practicing responsible financial policies, but also through
volunteering for community projects and sharing their knowledge and
expertise.
In pursuance of such sustainable growth plans, the Bank undertook to
invest in several rural schools in Sri Lanka. A series of projects were
carried out in the course of the past three years, the most recent
investments being in three schools namely, Seewali Kanishta Vidyalaya,
Kandy, Amunutenna Kanishta Vidyalaya – Ratnapura and Manampita Ratnasara
Vidyalaya - Mattaka, Galle.
These particular schools cater to low income families and struggle to
provide basic facilities for the students. Sanitary, healthcare,
nutrition and educational facilities are severely limited and the
schools function under challenging conditions. Not only do the students
struggle to find appropriate attire, but the schools themselves are
under pressure in finding teachers and books.
Nations Trust Bank having always had education, at the forefront of
their concerns, undertook different projects for the three schools as
per their respective immediate needs. Taking each school separately.
The Amunutenna Kanishta Dweethika Vidyalaya received a well stocked
library and an English reading unit, some sports equipment and a play
area, a much needed water supply system together with clean, hygienic
toilets, office and classroom separators, shoes and school bags. Other
improvements such as a staircase, garden and stage curtain were also
undertaken.
Similarly Seewali Kanishta Vidyalaya was gifted with play area
equipment, whiteboards and notice boards, toilet facilities and a
refurbished Assembly Hall. Additionally wire mesh protection was erected
for the assembly area and renovations undertaken to the library.
In the case of Manampita Ratnasara Vidyalaya, a play area together
with sanitary toilets and renovation for the primary school.
Sustainability is a priority within NTB. It is committed to a durable
business ethos that enables tangible contributions to the community in
which it operates. |
