Three persons who had links with inmates of
Vavuniya Remand Prison were arrested by Vavuniya Police. Special
Task Force (STF) Commandant DIG R W M C Ranawana said Vavuniya
Police arrested one female and two males providing “outdoor”
information to Vavuniya prisoners through hand phones outside the
prison. Police also seized two hand phones and one satellite phone
from the suspects’ possession. They also took into custody 51 hand
phones used by prisoners of the Vanuniya Remand Prison.

School girl murder: suspects remanded till July 10

in connection with the alleged abduction, sexual abuse and murder of
a seven year old grade 1 school girl in Narahenpita were yesterday
produced before Additional Magistrate Nishantha Peries and remanded
till July 10.

Vavuniya prison drama, a ploy - Minister Gajadeera
Investigations are in progress to find out if
the incident at the Vavuniya prison was staged with an intention of
conveying a message to the international community that the LTTE was
still in existence and to rejuvenate terrorist activities in the
country, said Rehabilitation and Prison Reforms Minister Chandrasiri
Gajadeera.
