Olympic Day Run, a messenger for a healthy life style

The Olympic Day Run , celebration in Sri Lanka to mark the World
Olympic Day will be held on June 27 at 3pm in Colombo with the
participation of nearly 1000 school students. The event has been
organized by the National Olympic Committee in Sri Lanka with the
Education Ministry and Sri Lanka Police Department in parallel to the
World Olympic Day which falls on June 23 will take place exactly a month
prior to 2012 London Olympics.

The run will start at Olympic House near Race Course ground and will
proceed passing Royal Rugby Football Ground, Jawatte and continue on
Bauddaloka Mawatha passing Torrington and will reach St Bridget Convent
junction. It will turn left to take the Independence Avenue and will
finish at the Independence Square.
900 hundred students from 27 schools and school bands from Isipathana
College, D S Senanayake College and Vishaka College, Colombo will make
the event lively on June 27. This year the Olympic Day Run is sponsored
by Sri Lanka Telecom PLC. The significant of this year participation is
that students of less popular schools in Colombo have been given the
opportunity to take part in the event.
They will also be awarded with certificates and costumes for the
event by the International Olympic Committee.
Sri Lanka Telecom will donate library books for the participating
schools in line with the occasion.
There will be band shows performed by school bands and Civil Security
Department as well. The event is considered as an international effort
to promote sports for fitness and well-being of every one across the
globe regardless of age, gender or sporting ability.
It will also be an opportunity to adopt a healthy life style for all
Sri Lankans. |
