Sri Lanka win First Test easily

The Pakistanis only managed to delay the inevitable and hung on grimly batting all day and in the extra half hour conceded victory to Sri Lanka by 209 runs on the fourth day of the first of three Tests at the Galle International Stadium, here today. Set 510 for victory, Pakistan were all out for 300 with a day to spare. The Pakistanis cut a very sorry figure in this Test and it is hoped that they will regroup and be better opponents in the next two Tests at the SSC and the Pallekelle Stadium.

Captain Jayawardena justifies his reason

It was a delighted Sri Lankan Captain Mahela Jayawardena who faced the media after the first Test victory against Pakistan and answered questions in his own inimitable style. Firstly he cocked a snook at his detractors who questioned his decision to bat a second time instead of enforcing the follow on having a big lead of 372 after making 472 and dismissing the opponents for 100.

Moratu Vidyalaya beat Sumangalians

Moratu Vidyalaya beat their arch rivals Sri Sumangala College, Panadura by 75 runs in their inter-school Under 17 tournament cricket match organized by Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association and played at Moratuwa. The match was restricted to 28 overs due to rain and batting first Vidyalians were all out for 79 runs and in reply Sumangalians were dismissed for 64 runs with skipper Harsha Devinda claiming 4 for 17.

Olympic Day Run, a messenger for a healthy life style

The Olympic Day Run , celebration in Sri Lanka to mark the World Olympic Day will be held on June 27 at 3pm in Colombo with the participation of nearly 1000 school students. The event has been organized by the National Olympic Committee in Sri Lanka with the Education Ministry and Sri Lanka Police Department in parallel to the World Olympic Day which falls on June 23 will take place exactly a month prior to 2012 London Olympics.
