Property developers to build Janasevana housing schemes
A large number of local property developers expressed willingness to
build Janasevana housing schemes when they met Construction, Engineering
Services, Housing and Construction Minister Wimal Weerawansa at his
ministry recently.
A ministry release said these housing schemes are built under the
Janasevana one million houses and community settlement development
operation conducted on the direction of Minister Weerawansa under the
Mahinda Chinthana future vision.
The proposed Janasevana housing schemes will be built at Kandalawatta
in Ratmalana, Mt Clifford and Jalthara second stage at Homagama, Siyane
Uyana Stage III in Yakkala, Ranpokunagama Stage II Werellawatta in
Yakkala, Pallekelle in Kandy, Patanawatta in Hantana, Pathana in
Bandarawela and Galkaduwatta in Ratnapura.
These are built under both categories as single houses and flats
targeting public servants, private sector employees and middle classes.
Minister Weerawansa addressing the property developers told them to
ensure that these housing schemes conformed to high standards.
He also told officials to provide bank loans with minimum conditions
attached when providing these houses to the people.
The release said BOI officials who attended the meeting said there
are possibilities of granting certain tax relief measures to property
developers undertaking these housing schemes. The release said the land
on which houses are situated will belong to the NHDA which will
co-ordinate the formulation of plans and technical assistance with the
property developers.
