Property developers to build Janasevana housing schemes

A large number of local property developers expressed willingness to build Janasevana housing schemes when they met Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and Construction Minister Wimal Weerawansa at his ministry recently.

A ministry release said these housing schemes are built under the Janasevana one million houses and community settlement development operation conducted on the direction of Minister Weerawansa under the Mahinda Chinthana future vision.

The proposed Janasevana housing schemes will be built at Kandalawatta in Ratmalana, Mt Clifford and Jalthara second stage at Homagama, Siyane Uyana Stage III in Yakkala, Ranpokunagama Stage II Werellawatta in Yakkala, Pallekelle in Kandy, Patanawatta in Hantana, Pathana in Bandarawela and Galkaduwatta in Ratnapura.

These are built under both categories as single houses and flats targeting public servants, private sector employees and middle classes.

Minister Weerawansa addressing the property developers told them to ensure that these housing schemes conformed to high standards.

He also told officials to provide bank loans with minimum conditions attached when providing these houses to the people.

The release said BOI officials who attended the meeting said there are possibilities of granting certain tax relief measures to property developers undertaking these housing schemes. The release said the land on which houses are situated will belong to the NHDA which will co-ordinate the formulation of plans and technical assistance with the property developers.

NHDA Chairman Jayantha Samaraweera, Urban Settlement Development Authority Chairman Palitha Gamage, State Engineering Co-operation Chairman Jagath Kumara Perera, Condominium Management Authority Chairman Kapila Gamage and other officials attended the meeting.
