Fogging out dengue at Royal College

Spraying anti dengue pesticides

Following the directive issued by the Ministry of Health, which declared this month to be a National Dengue Eradication Month, the Royal College Group of 59 was quick to act with an eradication project to rid the College premises of the dengue menace.

At present Royal College has a student population of 8,000 and a teaching fraternity of 450. In addition, the non academic staff and stakeholders visiting the premises are at a risk of being affected by this disease spreading insect pests.

Dengue fever is a debilitating mosquito-borne disease that is potentially fatal, particularly in young children. The peak incidence comes after the monsoon season, when the density of the mosquito carrier species, is especially high. The Royal College Group of 59 which has initiated many projects in the past came up with a pest control eradication project for its school.

Spearheading the project was an old boy of Royal College, Suren Cook who also happens to be the Chief Executive officer (CEO) of the leading Pest Control company - Suren Cooke Agencies. Suren Cooke Agencies volunteered to sponsor the entire Dengue Control Programme that took place at the Royal College. A letter sent by the Principal of the College, Upali Gunasekera's read. “Suren Cooke Agencies conducted a thorough process of extermination and pest control, making sure Royal College is free from unwanted insects and disease spreading organisms. Royal College acknowledges and appreciates this gesture and commends Suren Cooke Agencies for a job well done to uplift the standards of Royal College in terms of the environment.”

Suren Cooke Agency’s success has been their credibility which continues to satisfy many clients from homes to factories, warehouses and other organizations. The treatment they devised for Royal College was conducted under the supervision of Sheran Cooke who is a third generation Royalist.

An effective and sustainable control method in reduce the density of mosquitoes was undertaken by spraying chemicals to control the larvae and to reduce the adult population by use of an adulticide to potential target sites, using a thermal fogger.

“Suren Cooke Agencies conducted a thorough process of extermination and pest control, making sure Royal College is free from unwanted insects and disease spreading organisms. Every nook and corner of Royal College was explored and did a thorough job. The effort put in by the technicians in administering the pesticides is absolutely commendable” - cited the principal in a letter he sent to Suren Cooke Agencies.
