Lankan kabaddi team eyeing a medal

Sri Lanka men’s beach kabaddi team lost to Pakistan 35-21 at the Fengxiang beach in Haiyang last evening but looking for a win in today’s game against Afghanistan on the fourth day of the third Asian Beach Games in China. The powerful Pakistan outfit, silver medalists of the previous Asian Beach Games, looked strong from beginning. Lankans also worked hard to collect points amidst the resistance of tall and strong Pakistanis and cold weather. Pakistan led the first half 21-8 and tough work helped the Lankan men to reduce the gap at the end of the match.

Rehabilitated LTTE cadres for sports

The special selection programme to recognize the skills of the sports talented rehabilitated ex-LTTE cadres was held on Tuesday (18) at the Sugathadasa Stadium, Colombo under the patronage of Minister of Sports Manindanada Aluthgamage and Minister of Rehabilitation and Prison Reforms Chandrasiri Gajadheera, the Ministry of Sports said. LTTE cadres who surrendered to the Government during the humanitarian operations have been rehabilitated and successfully re-integrated into society.

Musaeus, Sangamitta joint hockey champs

Musaeus College, Colombo held the strong Sangamitta Balika Vidyalaya to a thrilling one-all draw to finish as joint champions at the All Island Schools Girls Under-17 Hockey Championship organized by the Sri Lanka Schools Hockey Association and played at Shalika Grounds yesterday. At half time the Sangamitta Girls led 1-0. It was an excellent display by the girls from Musaeus College who were up against a stronger side from the hockey town of Matale. They displayed excellent fighting spirits and this was biggest success in hockey in their history.

The Sri Lanks Police Rugby Team is ready to outsmart their counterparts in the Inaugural Dialog League Rugby Tournament with a steady side.The team hopes to regain their past glory this season Sri Lanka Police reigned supreme in the club rugby in the late 1970’s and 1980’s during which period they won the ‘A’ division league title in 1979 - 1980 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989 and 1991.
