Two athletes to be rewarded

The Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council has decided to reward the two sportswomen from Sabaragamuwa who excelled at the 15th Asian Junior Athletics Championship held in Colombo recently.

Accordingly, Shivanthi Kumari Ratnayake of Kegalle who won a gold medal in the 400 metres event will be awarded a cash prize of Rs 500,000 and Chamika Jayamini who won a bronze medal in the 3,000 metres hurdles will be awarded a cash prize of Rs 200,000, said Sabaragamuwa Chief Minister Maheepala Herath.

The awards will be made at a special ceremony organized by the Provincial Council at which sportsmen and women from all provinces who brought honour to the motherland at the championship will be felicitated, he said.
