Classy Engineers at WCMT Campus

WCMT Campus, the Sri Lankan Academic Centre for the University of Bolton, United Kingdom, brings good news to all those young aspirant nurturing hopes of becoming an engineer. With the much acclaimed reputation and unique teaching methods of Bolton, students now have the opportunity of following a highly recognised engineering qualification that will keep them ahead of the rest.

The Edexcel BTEC Higher National Diplomas offered by WCMT Campus are designed to enable the students to gain hands on experience on how the profession of engineering actually works in practicality, while also placing maximum attention on theoretical aspects.

Three HNDs focusing on three core areas of engineering, namely Civil Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Mechanical Engineering, are now on offer at the WCMT Campus for students to choose from.

The HND in Civil Engineering comprises of exciting modules such as Structural and Soil Mechanics, Surveying and Geology and Project Planning. On top of these, the students will also have the opportunity to participate in a "Survey Camp" where they can practice in reality the skills they have gained inside the classroom.

The HND in Electrical Engineering on the other hand covers areas such as Power Electronics and Power Systems and Mechatronics, while the HND in Mechanical Engineering comprises of modules such as Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Programming Logic Controllers and Mechatronics.

The HNDs on offer at WCMT Campus will spread for a period of two years, which includes an internship of six months. The great advantage of following these HNDs is that they operate as a route of entry to the third year of an honours degree in engineering, enabling the students to strengthen their academic positions further.

The academic programmes are designed to provide a smooth progression from HND to Top-up Engineering Degree, with students being guaranteed of access to modern, dedicated engineering laboratories equipped with industry-standard engineering design and analysis software.

Edexcel, being the United Kingdom's largest qualification awarding body, is accredited to the qualifications and curriculum authority of the United Kingdom.

Its recognition and repute spreads well over 112 countries, with over four million students being enrolled each year. Being a specialist vocational programme of the highest caliber, Edexcel ensures that the content of its courses are linked to professional body requirements as well as national occupational standards, thereby bringing them more validity and acceptance. In the specific case of these HNDs in engineering, the Edexcel qualifications are designed in such a way that the students can apply for the Chartered Engineer status following the completion of two years of the Top-up Engineering Degree, thus ensuring that each student is on the right track towards career progression.

The Edexcel BTEC HND at the WCMT Campus will therefore allow students to engage in a unique learning experience that will be nurtured by strong sector-related emphasis on practical skills as well as comprehensive knowledge and understanding regarding the study arena.
