NCP poll can go ahead

Court vacates injunction filed by UNP Councillor:

The North Central Province Civil Appeals high Court yesterday issued an order to vacate the injunction imposed on the Governor and the Chief Minister staying the dissolution of the North Central Provincial Council.

UNP Provincial Councillor Anil Ratnayake filed a petition against the dissolution of the NCP before the due date. The Bench comprised Justice Nissanaka Bandula Karunaratne and Sarath Edirisinghe .

The Bench observed that the court had no legal status to hear the case. Furthermore, the Chief Minister has the power to instruct the Governor to dissolve the Provincial Council. As the case cannot continue, the case should be dismissed by the Chief Minister and an election called, the Bench observed.
