Combined time table for public transport

Irangika RANGE

All SLTB and private buses will operate according to a combined time table soon, Private Transport Services Minister C.B.Ratnayake said.

Provincial Councils, SLTB and the Private Transport Services Ministry have joined hands to implement the combined time table.

"We had discussions with Transport Minister Kumara Welgama, all stake holders in the private transport services and Provincial Councils' transport ministers to commence the programme," the minister said. He said that the joint bus time tables of private and SLTB buses will be released shortly.

The SLTB will be given 40 percent route allocation while private buses will be granted the balance 60 percent. Provincial road passenger transport authorities have pledged their support to implement the programme, he said. The introduction of combined timetables will address problems pertaining to road accidents. It will ease traffic congestion and provide an adequate number of buses at peak hours, the minister said.
