Two Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) agriculture
specialists Dr. Yoon Jang-won and Dr. Kim Jae-ho assisted the flower
festival Malwasanthaya 2012 in Bingiriya organised by the Sri Lanka
Export Development Board (EDB), Bingiriya Agricultural Export Zone
(BAEZ) and Bingiriya Development Foundation (BDF) held from May 31 to
June 3.
As part of the World Friends Advisor (WFA) programme under KOICA's
technical cooperation activities, Dr. Yoon, a plant physiology and
pathology expert, arrived in Sri Lanka in June 2010 and has been
providing consultations to the Bingiriya Division EDB to build
capacities of local government officials and farmers, develop high
quality export flower products and promote local farmers' income.
Dr. Kim was assigned to UCIARS (University of Colombo Institute for
Agro-Technology and Rural Science) from August 2010 and has since been
developing an E-Diploma course in agro-technology and rural science.
At this event, Dr. Kim established the exhibition booth and
introduced high value added agriculture food items. At the third day of
the festival, Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa and KOICA Resident Representative
Cho Sang Woo attended this festival.
KOICA advisers' programme aims to facilitate policy formulation,
institutional building and action planning in human resource development
and education, farming technologies, public health, IT and waste
management by sharing their expertise with Sri Lanka.
