The sugar production of Sevanagala sugar factory taken over from the
private sector in November 2011 is successful after nine years, acting
General Manager K Walter said.
He said 11,000 metric tons of sugar will be produced from the harvest
reaped from 2,211 hectares cultivated land for the first round of
grinding.
"With the beginning of the grinding season, about 4,000 families have
benefited. Many job opportunities have arisen for sugar cane cutters,"
he said.
It is expected to produce 21,000 metric tons of sugar by 2014 by
cultivating 37,000 hectares and giving relief to farmers by modernising
the factory, Walter said.
