SLC staff will be trimmed - Sports Minister

Sri Lanka Cricket Board staff will be reduced to 40 percent, Sports Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage said in Parliament yesterday.

The minister said 41 employees engaged on contract basis were already removed.

He said 60 percent of employees are in excess and will be discontinued presently. The Chief Security Officer who was to provide security to the 20x20 World Cup Cricket Tournament scheduled to be held in Sri Lanka was removed from his post as his security plan for the tournament was rejected by the ICC., the minister said.

He said the security officer was dismissed consequent to the payment of an additional month's salary before the completion of his 6 month contract period. Minister Aluthgamage made this observation in response to a question raised by UNP MP Dayasiri Jayasekara.
