Set up at the Embassy premises, on the initiative of the Sri Lankan
Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, Sarath Wijesinghe, the main
objective of this facility is to offer professional IT knowledge free of
charge to expatriate workers to help them gain better employment.
“Most of the workers in the Gulf region are women who are employed as
house maids.
The government is keen to elevate their standard of employment. IT
education would help them to gain employment in Super markets,
restaurants and other similar institutions ,” Wijesinghe said.
He said a qualified IT instructor has been entrusted to train the
expatriates and a special certificate would be issued for candidates who
pass out the examination successfully.
“The service would be free of charge not only for Sri Lankans but
also for all expatriates of SAARC countries.
Indian Express Money has donated six computers to commence this
project. We would aquire more computers when the demand increases,” he
said.
Wijesinghe added that workers with IT knowledge get highly paid even
if they are employed in small institutions.
“This is the main reason which led to the launch of this initiative,”
he added.
