Dharmaraja College topped up the century mark for the second time
this season when they annihilated C W W Kannangara Maha Vidyalaya by 106
points (13 goals, 3 tries) to 9 (3 penalties) in their schools under 19
Division Segment B Rugby Tournament match played at the Bogambara
Stadium, Kandy yesterday.
At half time Rajans led 31-6.It was really in the second half that
the Rajans Cut loose to amass 75 points despite making ten
substitutions.
This was Rajans fifth successive for the season and they have now
scored 404 points in five matches averaging a little over 80 points per
match. They beat Carey College 82-0, beat Nalanda College 41-0, beat
Lumbini College 104-0, beat St. Sylvester's College 73-26.
The visiting team did well to restrict the Rajans to 31-6 by lemons
but all hell broke loose after the turn around with the Rajans going on
the rampage.
Winger Lahiru Fernando was in fine form scoring five tries and all
ending under the post. It was sheer speed and spotting the gaps. It must
be recalled that he scored five tries in a row against St. Sylvester's
College last week.
The other try scores were centre and skipper Miyuru Hewawasam (3),
full back Tilina Wijesinghe (3), flanker Gehan Jayasinghe (1), scrum
half Ishanka Wimalasuriya (1), winger Tharindu Kulawansa (1), lock
Vihanga Nawalage (1) and flanker Malinda Herath (1). Full back Tilina
Wijesinghe goalled 13 of the tries in addition to scoring 3 tries to
bring this tally in the match 41 points. Aruna Rankothge refereed. |
