The Mihintale Aloka Pooja social hospitality service organised by
Lake House has contributed towards a major social transformation in the
region in particular and the country in general, said Mihintale Raja
Maha Viharadhipathi Ven Walahahenguna Wewe Dhammaratana Nayake Thera.
The Aloka Pooja programme started in a small way with limited funds
in 1963, has continued for 50 years and blossomed into a grand religious
and social festival today, the thera added. He said Mihintale in
particular has achieved a great degree of economic and social
development as a result of the Aloka Pooja programme.
The oratorical and other dhamma competitions organised by the Lake
House Buddhist publication Budusarana to coincide with the Aloka Pooja
programme had led to the moral and spiritual uplift of the student
generation.
The Nayake Thera said the government too had developed infrastructure
and other facilities in Mihintale and he was grateful to the government
for this service. |
