Media Minister arrives Friday
Mass Media and Information Minister Keheliya Rambukwella is expected
to arrive in Sri Lanka tomorrow.
The minister was severely injured following an accident in Melbourne.
He received treatment in Australia, a statement issued by the Mass Media
and Information Ministry said yesterday. The minister is recovering and
he will resume duties in a few days, the release added.
Dispute leads to couple's death
Puttalam group cor
A family dispute in Permakuttuwa, Anamaduwa on Monday night led to
the tragic deaths of both husband and wife, Anamaduwa Police said.
Police said the husband had allegedly stabbed his wife and later
committed suicide by drinking poison. The wife succumbed to her injuries
later. The victims were identified as W N M Charlishamy, 57, and his
wife R N Wimalawathie, 47. Investigations are continuing.

Book launch
A first novel by a new writer, based on the general strike of the
eighties which was a turning point in trade union activities in Sri
Lanka, will be released on today at 4 pm at the National Library
Auditorium (Independence Avenue - Colombo 07).
The new novelist is a former Additional Commissioner of Labour,
Nammuni K. Dayaratna.
Minister Vasudeva Nanayakkara will be the chief guest, and the
keynote address is by Dr.Praneeth Abhayasundara, Head of Sociology &
Anthropology - Sri Jayawardenepura University. The new novel is a
publication of Sarasavi Publishers, Nugegoda.
Public talk
Mallika Karunaratne will deliver a public talk in English on
Kakacupama Sutta (Majjhima Nikaya)- The Simile of the Saw at the meeting
of the Servants of the Buddha Society on May 26 at 4.30 pm at the
Maithree Hall,Lauries Road, Bambalapitiya.
Sangika dana
A sangika dana organised by the Sri Lanka Library Association to
commemorate its members who are no more and transfer merit on them will
be held at the Sri Vajiragnana Dharmayatanaya, Maharagama on May 25
forenoon.
Aesthetic show
An aesthetic show 'Su Rasa Dahara' staged by Devi Balika Vidyalaya,
Colombo will be held at 5 pm at the Nelum Pokuna Mahinda Rajapaksa
Theatre today. Principal W D P K Samarasinghe, Education Secretary H M
Gunasekera,Prof. Sunil Ariyaratne,Prof Mudiyanse Dissanayake and
Sangeeth Visharada Amarasiri Peiris will grace the occasion.
Workshop on garbage management
An awareness workshop on garbage management will be held at the
Pannala Community Hall on May 27.The workshop is organised by the
Pannala Divisional Secretariat under the patronage of Central
Environmental Authority.
Environment Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa and Agricultural
Minister Mahinda Yapa Abeywardhana will participate.

Houses for Ranaviru families
Forty three newly built houses erected at a cost of Rs 129 million
under the Api Venuwen Api project will be handed over to Ranaviru
families at the Bakamuna Central College play ground on May 25 at 10.30
am.
The project is being implemented under the supervision of chairperson
of the Seva Vanitha Unit of the Defence Ministry Ayoma Rajapaksa.

Iranian Information and knowledge centre, Iran Corner will be opened
by Education Minister Bandula Gunawardena at the National Library and
