Indian Army draw series aganist SL Army
The Indian Army Volleyball team which toured Sri Lanka recently won
the second match played against Sri Lanka Army at Kahawatte and drew the
series. Although they lost the first match played in Colombo, the
visitors came back strongly to win the second match by 3-2 at Kahawatte
last Saturday.

Member of Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council Kanchana Jayaratne who was
responsible for the organization of the event along with Ratnapura
District Volleyball Association did a commendable job in conducting the
game at Kahawatte. This was the first time in 20 years a foreign
Volleyball team has played in Ratnapura District and a large gathering
of spectators were seen at the match. Sri Lanka Army team easily won the
first set by 25-22, but Indian Army team came back to win the second and
third sets by 25-12 and 25-18. Indian team scored most of their points
through smashes using short passes.
Sri Lanka Army encouraged by the ground support won the fourth set by
27-25 after a keen contest. The fifth and final set was evenly balanced
at the early stages but the Indian Army Team scoring points
consecutively won by 15-10 thus drawing the two match series 1-1. Power
and Energy Deputy Minister Premalal Jayasekara, Sabaragamuwa Provincial
Council Member Kanchana Jayaratna, Sri Lanka Army Volleyball Committee
President Brigadier D.C.S.Wanniarachchi were also present on the
occasion. |
