A good bunch

This year having lost to Trinity, Science College made a come back when they combined well to defeat DSS by 8 points to 5.

Skipper Kanchan Perera and deputy Richard Dharmapala joined by other second year players Ashan Maduranga, Chathura and Thusitha Gomez, Lasindu and Thilina Thilanka made a good pack of ruggerites.

Having trained by Mothilal Jayathilaka for years they will make their presence felt and are determined to make the maximum from the tournament matches which are lined up for the rest of the season. They will have to confront Royal and show their prowess.

With last year season's achievements they won the hearts of all rugby lovers an unpredictable team.

The skills they show will cause plenty of anxious moments to all opponents this season too.

Dedicated

Having taken to the game in 1983 Science College has come a long way. It was Kamal Jayewardena, a former coach and an old boy who did the hard work show them how.

They soon beat experienced Thomians in their first season which was a signal of a good sign. Their dedication and commitment earned them the plate championship at the inter-school rugby sevens and the Cup Championship in the Zahira Sevens.

The school is equipped with a rugby ground which is a great asset to the young and energetic lads.

The Rugby Support Group comprising old boys and well wishers is the strength behind them. Science College has the honour of producing two Sri Lankan rugby captains, Nazim Mohamad (1999) and Sanjeewa Jayasinghe (2004-5). The school also was the cradle for many national rugby players including Vikum Perera, Mangala de Silva, Damith Jayawardena and many more.

Coach and physical trainer Mothilal Jayathilaka has trained them to absorb the pressure form their opposition.

With 10 experienced players in the bunch, Science College will be a promising team and continue to challenge their opponents in an attempt to secure a top position in the tournament.
