The Central Environmental Authority (CEA) has warned the public to
use natural material as much as possible, instead of plastic and
polythene for Vesak decorations.
CEA Director General Ramani Ellepola observed that the use of
polythene for Vesak lanterns and decorations have gradually risen,
adding that the structures of lanterns made of plastic too have
increased.
She requested the public to make sure of the proper disposal of such
material without any harm to the environment and drainage system of the
country. She requested the public to collect and handover polythene and
plastic waste to the Post Consumer Polythene and Plastic Recycling
Centres without disposing them by roadsides.
She also warned the organizers of dansals to be cautious when
disposing polythene and lunch sheets. |
