Power piracy raids earn CEB millions

The CEB’s Regional Office in Tangalle has earned Rs 1,900,000 as fines imposed on electricity pirates last year. This followed joint raids conducted by the Tangalle CEB Engineers’ office and the CEB Special Investigation Unit stationed in Galle, said Co-ordinating Officer of the Tangalle CEB office Nadika Abeygunasekara.

He said tapping electricity from transmission lines by using hooks and metre tampering were the most common tactics adopted by the pirates.
