One dead, 46 injured in crash

One person died and 46 others were injured following a collision between a bus and a lorry on High Level Road in Padukka, Galagedara yesterday morning, Police Media Spokesman SP Ajith Rohana told the Daily News.

The injured were admitted to the Colombo National Hospital, Kalubowila Hospital, Homagama and Padukka Hospitals, he said.

Four are in a critical condition, hospital sources said one injured person was transferred to the Colombo National Hospital.

The two vehicles had collided headon. Another van had also crashed onto the lorry. The bus was on its way to Colombo and the lorry and the van were travelling to Avissawella.

The lorry driver died in the crash. Padukka Police are investigating.
