Gold snatch thieves on the rise

Thirty cases of gold chains being snatched during the day have been reported from the Kurunegala district last year, the Police said.

In the latest incident, two suspects snatched a gold chain from a teacher last week while she was waiting at a bus stop, Weerambugedera Police said.

The suspects had come in a car and had snatched the gold chain worn by the teacher.

The Police gave chase and apprehended the suspects.

Kurunegala chief magistrate K Nanayakkara remanded the suspects.
