School drop-outs to be absorbed to schools

Measures have been taken to collect information regarding school drop-outs in the Sainthamaruthu Divisional Secretariat area in the Ampara district. The Principals of schools in the area have been requested by the Divisional Secretary to provide the information early.

It is learnt that the dropouts who left the schools due to poverty and non-availability of assistance, will be absorbed to schools again.


Carbonic fertilizer gets special attention

“The agriculture department pays special attention to the promotion of the use of carbonic fertilizer, in place of artificial fertilizer in paddy cultivation,” said the Agriculture Instructor of Sainthamaruthu M M M Jameel at the Agrarian Service Centre in the Ampara district.

He was addressing a seminar on the use of phosphate based compost for paddy cultivation held at Kalmunai Zahira College, Kariapper Hall recently.

Jameel added that since the price of artificial fertilizer is rising day by day, it is advisable to turn to compost for paddy cultivation.

He said, “We are always ready to give the results of researches to cultivators. The researches are done for the benefit of the cultivators. If the outcome of they do not reach the cultivators, such researches would be of no use.”


Roads in Dodangaslanda to be developed

The Economic Development Ministry has allocated Rs 15 million for under developed roads in the Dodangaslanda electorate.

These roads which had not been repaired for a long period were filled with large pot holes.


Kate Moss to visit Sri Lanka

English supermodel Kate Moss and her husband are due to visit Sri Lanka for a holiday next month.

She and Jamie Hince, who tied the knot at Kate's countryside mansion last July, will hit the road with Jamie's band The Kills in May before heading to Sri Lanka to spend some time alone together.

Later they will travel to the UK for the Isle of Wight Festival to renew their wedding vows in June.

Kate Moss came second on the Forbes Top Earning Models list in 2007.

Special Bhajan programme

A special 12 hour Bhajan programme (Singing the glory of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba) will be held at the Sai Mandhir, Barnes Place, Colombo 7 on April 24 from 8 am to 8 pm in remembrance of the merging of the Vyaktha Roopa of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba with the Ayyaktha Roopa on April 24, 2011.

The programme is organised by the Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Sewa Samathi, Colombo.


Sri Lanka - Japan Nite

The 'Sri Lanka - Japan Nite' organised by the JICA Alumni Association of Sri Lanka to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and Japan will be held on April 28 from 7 pm onwards at the Grand Oriental Hotel, Colombo 1.

Japanese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Nobuhito Hobo and Ms. Tomomi Hobo will be the Chief Guests while JICA Sri Lanka Office Chief Representative Marumi Ao will be the Guest of Honour. The dinner dance will be preceded bhy a cultural show.
