Second phase development of Colombo International Airport:

AASL receives US $ 350 m credit from JICA

Airport and Aviation Services Ltd, (AASL) has secured credit facilities to the tune of US $ 350 million from Japan International Corporation Agency (JICA). This is the first time that a government institution had received direct credit from an overseas organisation. Chairman AASL, Prasanna Wickramasuriya said that these funds would be utilized for the second phase development of the Colombo International Airport. Sri Lankan tourism is fast developing and the arrival numbers are increasing. In addition airlines want to increase frequencies while new carriers too want to fly to Colombo. This is the reason that the Colombo airport needs more capacity,” he said.

HNB continues capital raising spree

HNB PLC yesterday entered into an agreement with the German Development Finance Institution, DEG to raise US$ 25 million through a eight year subordinated loan which forms part of tier II capital of the bank. The funds raised would be utilised to finance the growth in small and medium enterprises which is one of the most important sectors supporting the post conflict growth in Sri Lanka.

ComBank, Ria Financial Services tie up

The Commercial Bank of Ceylon has tied up with Ria Financial Services, the third largest money transfer company in the world, substantially enhancing its offering in the sphere of remittances. This paves the way for Sri Lankans to collect from Commercial Bank branches monies remitted from any of the 140,000 locations of Ria’s global network in 140 countries on six continents. Some of the locations covered by Ria’s network include key corridors such as USA, Canada, Italy, Cyprus, Australia France, UK, Germany, Switzerland, and the agreement will also open up new corridors for remittance offering, the bank said.

Participants in the third South Asian Mobile Conference to be held on May 30 could enjoy a rare chance in valuable interaction with world’s top experts on the mobile. According to ICTA, the hosting organization of the conference, says that foremost among the speakers scheduled to address the conference are Tomi Ahonen, Ralph Simon and Hassan Shahid.
