A 20-member student group from schools in the Northern Province
accompanied by two officials from the Northern Province Education,
Culture and Sports Ministry returned to Sri Lanka after a successful
educational tour to New Delhi, India.
Students from 19 schools in the North who scored the highest grades
in the Advanced Level examination were selected by the Education,
Culture and Sports Ministry for this educational tour. During the tour,
the students had the opportunity to visit many historical sites in New
Delhi such as the Mahatma Gandhi Samadhi, Indira Gandhi memorial,
Jawaharlal Nehru memorial, India Gate, Rashtrapati Bhavan, Delhi Haat
and Crafts Museum. They also visited the St. Francis de Sales Senior
Secondary School and interacted with students and teachers.
A group of seven students from Zahira College, Colombo are also
scheduled to undertake a similar educational tour later this year. These
events are supported by the India Sri Lanka Foundation (ISLF) under its
youth programme to help create awareness and establish bonds of
friendship among the youths of the two countries.
The ISLF was established by a Memorandum of Understanding between the
governments of India and Sri Lanka in 1998 to foster India - Sri Lanka
relations through the enhancement of economic, scientific, technical and
cultural cooperation and to promote greater understanding between the
peoples of the two countries. |
