Minister Fowzie says he did not attend Gampola meeting

Senior Minister for Urban Affairs A H M Fowzie says neither he nor the WP Governor Alavi Mowlana were present at a meeting addressed by Prime Minister D M Jayaratne in Gampola on the Dambulla mosque issue.

Issuing a statement, Minister Fowzie said, “My attention is drawn to the news item published in today's newspapers including the ‘Daily News’ about a meeting addressed by the Prime Minister in Gampola regarding the Dambulla mosque issue.

I noted in this news report that the said meeting was attended by me and the Governor of Western Province,S Alavi Moulana which is not correct. Governor Alavi Moulana and I did not participate in the said meeting held at Gampola.”
