‘One thousand IT teachers to be recruited’

The government has decided to recruit 1,000 teachers next month to
teach Information Technology (IT) in schools as IT is to be introduced
as a subject to the school curriculum from this year. IT will be taught
in all schools from Grade 6 to 9, Education Minister Bandula Gunawardena
said.
The Cambridge University press in India has offered 5000
series books titled Click Start to Royal College, Colombo,
to be used in implementing the new IT curriculum from Grade
2 to 9 commencing from the second school term in 2012. The
Royal College Old Boys' East Coast Association (RCOBEA ) in
the USA sponsored it on the request of Royal College Union.

The minister was addressing students of Royal College, Colombo at the
school's new theatre yesterday.
The examination to recruit these teachers was recently conducted by
the Examination Department and the Education Ministry. Teachers for
Mathematics, Science, English and Information Technology were selected
from this competitive examination.
“Around 17.500 candidates were eligible to sit the examination and
another 2, 000 teachers will be recruited after an interview, “he said.
Further training for the selected teachers will also be provided by
the ministry, “the Minister added. |
