Dy minister thanks outgoing Chinese ambassador
Outgoing ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Sri Lanka
Yang Xiuping paid a courtesy call on Finance and Planning Deputy
Minister, Githanjana Gunawardena at his ministry on ending her tenure in
Sri Lanka.

The deputy minister extended his gratitude to the ambassador for the
efforts undertaken by her to strengthen the bilateral relationship
between the two countries during her stint as the ambassador to Sri
Lanka by contributing towards deepening the political and economic ties
and taking steps to enrich the bond between the Heads of States of the
two nations.
During the discussion the deputy minister expressed his foremost
appreciation on behalf of the government for the stance taken by China
at the United Nations Human Rights Council Sessions in Geneva to vote
against the anti Sri Lankan resolution that was moved in late March.
The deputy minister urged the ambassador to further contribute
towards the enhancement of bilateral cooperation between Sri Lanka and
China within the fields of commerce, Trade and people to people contacts
upon her return to Beijing.
During the discussion Gunawardena also recalled the longstanding
friendship that exists between China and his family from his parents’
days with his late mother, Kusuma Gunawardena being the first Chairman
of the China-Sri Lanka Friendship Association.
Xiuping thanked the deputy minister for working diligently to enhance
the bilateral ties between the two countries at the discussion, with
particular reference to his stint as the External Affairs Deputy
Minister. |
