In search of one-eyeds

Once there was a man who wanted to earn instant money by doing nothing. From morn till evening he would think of plans of earning easy money. But nothing good came to his mind. He went on thinking of various plans and methods. But he never got any advice how he could earn money easy.

Then all of a sudden he came to know that there is an island where lived only one eyed men. He thought it is fascinating. Where is this island? The informant told him all what he saw and added they are a pack of some innocent human beings who live in difficulties.

Then he took down the right direction. Why? He said: then I can catch hold of one of them and bring back to my country and show him to others. In this way I can earn. Then he planned how he could exhibit the one-eyed man. I would put him into a cage and screen him. I would cry out, come and see this one eyed person from the island of the one eyed. I would charge just a penny for one look. So I can earn a lot that way.

With great difficulty he built a boat. He wanted to go alone as he did not like the others to see what he was doing. If by chance the others see me, he thought, they would feel jealous of my new plan to earn money. He travelled alone in the boat.

Gradually he reached the island. Now he was a stranger in this island. The one eyed humans looked at the two eyed human with amazement. The one eyeds thought that here is a stranger, perhaps an enemy. He had two eyes while the others in the island had only one eye.

The one-eyed people informed their king about the strange two eyed creature who looked like a human being. The king wanted him to be caught as soon as possible and bring him to the palace so that he can have a good look. The two eyed human was brought before the king of the one eyeds.

"Oh you have two eyes! What a strange human being you are! Perhaps you can see us better than we can see you!" Said the one-eyed king. But the king ordered the two eyed human being to be kept in a special cage and be exhibited to the one eyed subjects of his kingdom. No sooner said than done. The one eyed kingsmen built a special cage for the two eyed and kept him isolated as a prisoner. But the one eyed humans were harmless. They did not want to punish him. They gave him food and allowed him to walk about inside the prison. The one eyed island inhabitants came to see this strange two eyed human being from all quarters of the island. They brought him presents and gave him money which he collected as much as possible some of the one eyeds spoke to him in a strange language.

The two eyed human pretended that he knew their language and spoke in his own language which the one eyeds did not understand. This was an amusing episode. Children to came to see him they brought various kinds of flowers they wanted to speak to him but the difficulties of communication was a severe barrier. He wanted to know whether there is a single person who had two eyes. He spoke to them in the sign language and asked questions. The sign language showed that there is not a single two eyed person. As time passed the two eyed humans wanted to get rid of this barrier and return to his own country. He thought of various plans of getting out of this difficulty.

But nothing viable came out.He thought of swimming out of this island. But it was a long distance. He wanted to look at the sea and see whether there are any two eyed humans sailing in boats. But he did not see any of them. Then one day in his sign language the two eyed human spoke to a one-eyed human.

The one eyed human was showing a special interest in the two eyed human who looked pale and withered.

"Are you not suffering here?"

"Yes I am suffering because of my evil thoughts. I thought of capturing one of you, thinking that we are superior. If you are willing, I can take you to my country where there are so many two eyed humans live."

"Are you willing to go with me?"

"Yes I am willing."

"Yes I can. I'm a boat builder."

"That's great. Then you can earn more money in our country."

On this agreement secretively, the one eyed friend built a strong boat. Time came for them to leave the island shores. Both of them left the island of the one eyed humans.

While sailing in the boat, the two spoke in the first instance in the sign language. Then they gradually devised a language for themselves. At long last they arrived in the country of the two eyed humans.

But the plans to exhibit the one eyed human had vanished with the friendship inculcated between them.

The friends, relatives and well wishers of the two eyed human were amazed to see him return with a one eyed human.

"This is my good friend from the island of the one eyeds where I stayed for a long time," said the two eyed human to his people. Then he added:

"He is a great ship builder. Look after him as your own comrade. He looked after me well too. We must not look at each other as one-eyeds or two-eyeds. It is only a gift of nature. That is the harvest I had from the journey."
