Navy seizes ganja haul

The Sri Lanka Navy seized a haul of cannabis in the general area
Periyagamman along with a person. According to Sri Lanka Navy sources,
the raid had been conducted by the naval troops attached to the SLNS
Gajaba of the North-Central Naval Command.
The naval troops had conducted the raid according to information they
had received from an informant.
The naval personnel had arrested a person along with six kilograms of
cannabis. It was revealed that the arrested person is a 25-year youth
residing in Pallemunai.
SLN had handed over this person and seized cannabis haul to the
Police Narcotics Bureau for further investigations.
Meanwhile Sri Lanka Navy assisted in the repatriation of another two
Sri Lankan fishermen who have been released from Indian custody on
Thursday.
According to SLN sources, India had released two Sri Lankan fishermen
along with the fishing trawler DMS-335 and Sri Lanka Navy received the
fishermen and the fishing trawler from the Indian Coast Guard Ship
Rajshree at the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) off
Kankasanthurai.
Sri Lankan Naval Vessel P 411 attached to the Northern Naval Command
and Sri Lanka Coast Guard Vessel CG 42 had assisted in this mission.
The speedy release of the Sri Lankan fishermen and their fishing boat
comes as a direct result of the collaborative efforts made by the
Ministry of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development, Sri Lanka Navy
and the Indian officials. |
