Risk-free Aussies go for kill against Windies

Australia coach Mickey Arthur vowed his team will go for the West Indies' jugular in the third and final Test even if their full throttle assault backfires. Australia have already ensured they will keep the Frank Worrell Trophy they have held for two decades after winning the first Test in Barbados and then seeing the rain-hit second match in Trinidad peter out into a draw.

Kenyans on top in London Marathon

Kenya's Wilson Kipsang and Mary Keitany won the men's and women's events respectively in the London Marathon here on Sunday as the African nation dominated the podium places in the elite races. Kipsang, the second fastest man of all time, went clear of a class field in the closing stages and won in an unofficial time of two hours, four minutes and 44 seconds, just four seconds outside the course record set by compatriot Emmanuel Mutai in winning last year's race.

Gallant Vidyarthians hold Isipathana to a 19 all draw

Vidyartha College, Kandy came up with a stupendous performance to hold the more fancied Isipathana College, Colombo 19 all draw in their Singer League segment one 'A' division rugby match played at the Royal Sports Complex, Colombo yesterday. At the breather Isipathana led 14-10. Isipathana points came off from two goals and a try while Vidyartha points comprised a goal, three penalties and a drop goal.

Trinity emerge triple champions

Trinity College, Kandy, cricketers performed what was thought to be impossible at one time, when they became triple champions and brought honour to their home town Kandy at the recently concluded inter-school cricket season. Kandy though performing reasonably well at school has not maintained the same standards at club. Though it is the second largest city in the country with a large following of cricket but at club they have certainly not delivered the goods having produced two legendary cricketers like Muthiah Muralitharan and Kumar Sangakkara. It had just two clubs playing club cricket in the P Sara trophy tournament – Kandy Cricket Club and Kandy Youths Cricket Club. The former has been demoted to the lower division while Kandy Youths had managed to keep themselves afloat for another year.
