JICA aid for Sabaragamuwa roads
The Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA) has provided Rs
5,000 million to the Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council to develop
difficult roads in the Sabaragamuwa Province in extent of 180 kilometres.
These funds were provided on the initiative of Economic Development
Minister Basil Rajapaksa and Provincial Councils and Local Government
Minister A L M Athaulla, Sabaragamuwa Chief Minister Maheepala Herath
said.
The Chief Minister said out of these funds Rs 312 million has been
earmarked for the Talduwa-Panawala road in Deraniyagala utilizing latest
technology to prevent the regular damage caused to it by flood waters of
Seetawake ganga which is a tributary of the Kelani Ganga.
He said this road will be developed as a double lane road upto a
distance of 10 kilometres.
The Chief Minister disclosed this when he addressed a meeting after
inaugurating rehabilitation work on the Talduwa-Panawala road at a
ceremony held at Deraniyagala last Tuesday. |
