“It is important to encourage people to buy local products to uplift
the nation. Developing the agriculture sector has been given pride of
place by the government and most of the people have realized the value
of farming.” the minister said.
He also said that today life has become a challenge for people living
in the developed and un-developed countries.
‘The whole world has to face the challenges of food production,
nutrition, etc. Food prices are rapidly increasing under these
circumstances. A recent report described Sri Lanka as a powerful state
which has the ability to face escalating prices of goods.
“Sri Lanka’s trade gap has increased and as a result, the government
had to increase taxes on vehicles. There are various ideologies in our
society regarding this matter. There is no problem of buying a vehicle
if the person has enough money. But some people have to face lots of
financial problems as they cannot pay their monthly installments to the
finance company after buying a vehicle.” he said.
Western Provincial Council member Hector Bethmage, Colombo District
Secretary Kamal Padmasiri, Kaduwela Divisional Secretary M.S.P.
Suriyapperuma, Samurdhi Officers, Samurdhi beneficiaries and many others
participated.
