Coca-Cola Beverages Sri Lanka's (CCBSL) makes their mark in the
manufacturing arena by winning the prestigious 'Manufacturing
Excellence' award for the year 2011 by the Coca-Cola company.
The Manufacturing Excellence Award reflects the company's unwavering
commitment to deliver and meet benchmark quality and manufacturing
standards. It also recognizes the efforts of the company to embrace new
advanced manufacturing techniques and their commitment to meet quality
and safety standards.
CCBSL Country Supply Chain Manager Indika Perera commenting on the
achievement stated: "This award confirms that our efforts and hard work
has paid off. Being the first plant to kick-off TPM and obtain FSSC22000
- one of the most sought-after quality certifications available in this
industry, we have been able to benchmark the Sri Lankan plant with the
best bottling plants in our network. It is an honour and we are proud
and privileged to have won it."
The Manufacturing Excellence Award is exceptionally significant as
the company overcame stiff competition from over 63 plants that
represented the India Business Unit Awards Show in New Delhi. Selection
for the rare award was based on the status of the following criteria:
Plant Efficiency, Mechanical Efficiency, Product and Package Quality,
Visual Management within the plant and Consumer Complaints to name a
few. The criterion was also based on certifications obtained by
competing plants and their 'excellence' in each of the areas mentioned.
For Coca-Cola Sri Lanka to be the best office in the manufacturing arena
is a very special achievement for the company.
Lanka Aluminium launches Concept Centre
Lanka Aluminium Industries PLC - the pioneers in manufacturing of
high quality powder coated aluminium extrusions - launched a Concept
Centre at Galle Road, Colombo 3 recently, with the objective of offering
an opportunity for their customers, architects and consultants to obtain
first-hand experience and knowledge on innovative and latest aluminium
extrusions.
Of the seven new products that were on display at the Concept Centre,
the sliding folding system, sliding windows and doors specifically
engineered for weather resistance incorporating integral water
drain-outs, casement doors and the unique tilt and turn windows were
well appreciated by the architects and consultants present at the
occasion.
The one drawback in the marketing of aluminium door and window
systems is that the house builder - when shown individual pieces of
aluminium - is unable to visualize what the finished product looks like.
Hence, they are dependent on fabricators and designers to provide the
necessary specifications. In addition, they very rarely have an idea of
cost, and there is a tendency for certain unscrupulous elements to
overcharge the house builder.
"As a solution to these drawbacks and to provide a value-added
service to the end user, Lanka Aluminium Industries PLC launched the
Concept Centre displaying life size working models of windows and doors
in attractive finishes" said Lanka Aluminium Industries PLC Managing
Director Dinal Peiris.
"These product concepts are revolutionary and the extrusions are
proprietary. The Company has also invested in state-of-the-art machinery
which among other applications can also manufacture 'arched' windows,"
he added.
Today, aluminium extrusions are amongst the most widely used building
materials in the construction of high rise buildings the world over, as
aluminium is the only viable material capable of withstanding the wind
loads and forces applicable on windows in such construction projects.
Many house builders also use aluminium doors and windows for domestic
applications, since such units especially when powder coated are
extremely durable, long lasting and absolutely maintenance free as -
amongst other advantages - they do not need the regular polishing and
varnishing required for timber. |
