Liquor, narcotics free villages to be set up

Excise Department Commissioner General Wasantha Hapuarachchi said that the Excise Department plans to set up 300 liquor and narcotics free villages to mark its centenary anniversary.

'In order to save people from falling victim to liquor and narcotics, the proposed programme would be implemented islandwide with the help of Divisional Secretaries, Grama Niladharis, Police, religious dignatories, social reformers and school heads, said R M Jayakody, a senior official attached to the Excise Department in the North Western Province.

He further said that five million students, 25,000 school teachers, Principals, members of School Development Societies would be educated on the evil consequences of consuming liquor during this year.
