State banks contribute Rs four b for Jana Sevana

Around Rs 4 billion has been received from state banks alone for the
Jana Sevana Housing Project this year, said Construction Engineering
Services Housing and Common Amenities Minister Wimal Weeravansa.
The Ministry has taken measures to launch 113 housing projects
covering the whole country. The Ministry plans to build 50,000 houses in
2012.
National Housing Development Authority and Urban Habitat Development
Authority has built 20689 houses within the first year of the Jana
Sevana Housing Development program by investing Rs. six billion, said
the minister.
The minister further said that Jana Sevana Housing Development
Project is a 100 percent community based project.
All the constructions are been doing under the supervision of the
National Housing Development Authority.
The ministry has already taken measures to promote low cost nature
friendly housing programmes, he said.
The minister also said that the National Housing Development
Authority Officials has a very big responsibility to help realize the
wish of President Mahinda Rajapaksa to build one million houses.
The ministry has already taken measures to solve problems faced by
NHDA officials to encourage them to meet future targets.
