Passenger nabbed with counterfeit currency
Alert conductor informs police:

A passenger traveling in a private coach proceeding to Matara from
Colombo was nabbed with dozens of counterfeit currency notes by the
Kalutara North Police last week. The man was nabbed following a tip-off
from the conductor.
The Police seized nine counterfeit notes in the denomination of Rs
2,000, 21 notes in the denomination of Rs 1,000 and 39 notes in the
denomination of Rs 500 from the suspect.
The Police said the suspect from Hikkaduwa, got into the bus from
Kalutara, and gave a Rs 100 note to the private coach conductor. He had
then asked for a ticket.
The conductor felt suspicious and informed the Traffic Police.
The Police found dozens of counterfeit notes in the possession of the
suspect.
The suspect produced before Kalutara magistrate Kaniska Wijeratne was
remanded until January 30.
Meanwhile, the Police informed the Counterfeit Currency Notes Unit of
the Criminal Investigations Department. |
