Ancient human history has been revealed
beautifully by Paleoanthropology. Life originated 600 million years
ago and continental drift occurred 200 million years ago creating
five continents. Mammals evolved 140 million years ago, Hominids
that is the human type, evolved 26 million years ago but modern man
only arrived on the scene some 200,000 years ago. He migrated and
inhabited the world only in the last 50,000 years.

The nexus between place and people
I am most grateful to the British Council and
its Director and his staff for hosting this event, to coincide with
the planned expansion of its plant, in fulfillment I hope of
increasing and increasingly productive activity in Sri Lanka. I am

The Saronged king in his castle
To find subject matter to entice a readership is
not an easy task. To a greater extent readers ‘feed- backs’ go a
long way in helping a columnist to make the writing easier. Having
studied, worked and lived in London I have come across many
individuals, faced several situations and experienced and learnt a
lot by intermingling particularly with our own kind in Britain. Such
experiences and stories could at times be hilarious, now and again
serious and few are original and innovative. Most of them are by far
the most interesting to relate in lighter vein.

Future of the expanded East Asia Summit
In 2011, this vision came to fruition at the
Bali Summit of the EAS where for the first time in the history of
Asia – China, the United States and all the other principal states
of the region have sat around a common table at summit level to
deliberate on the region’s future.
