New rule for school van drivers

A new rule has been introduced with immediate effect where drivers
transporting schoolchildren should be over 30 years, Colombo Division
Senior DIG Anura Senanayake said when he met Western Province three
wheeler drivers and motorists transporting schoolchildren on Saturday.
Senior DIG Senanayake said that on President Mahinda Rajapaksa's
directive, IGP N K Illangakoon had instructed him to educate three
wheeler drivers and motorists transporting schoolchildren in the Western
Province.
“They should also possess a driving license for the last five years
and they should also be attired properly and not be in sleeveless shirts
and shorts,” he said.
Anyone violating these rules will be prosecuted, Senior DIG
Senanayake said. Over 1,000 three wheeler drivers and other vehicles
transporting schoolchildren participated in the meeting held at the
Colombo Traffic Headquarters. |
