SLFP condoles on the passing away of a stalwart
The Sri Lanka Freedom Party yesterday expressed its condolences on
the passing away of senior SLFPer and former MP Ratna Deshapriya
Senanayake.
He served as Deputy Minister of Information and Supplies under Prime
Minister Sirimavo Bandaranaike. A release issued by the Party states
that the late Ratna Deshapriya Senanayake was a leader who displayed
fighting qualities having contested as the SLFP nominee against then
Prime Minister Dudley Senanayake in all elections since 1960 giving the
latter a good fight.
Having served as chairman, CWE from 1960-65 he was appointed deputy
president of the SLFP in 1980 giving strong leadership to the party in
the Polonnaruwa district.
The late Ratna Deshapriya Senanayake was a well-known journalist, an
able lawyer who was a tower of strength to the progressive movements led
by the SLFP for over 50 years.
A honest and clean politician, his life can be emulated as a model by
all present day politicians the release states. |
