Police raid in-house distillery

An illicit distillery operated in a room in a house in Ingiriya was raided by Police on Wednesday night. The raid was carried out following information received by a constable.

The Police team with the barrels of goda seized in the room.

The Police found eight barrels of goda at the time of the raid and also seized 15,840 drams of goda.

Each barrel was connected to another with pipes. The main pipe with connections to eight barrels was set to the roof along the wall in the kitchen. This prevented the smell of goda from evaporating.

Meanwhile, a pedestrian who tried to go out from the Kahatudwa entrance on the Southern Expressway was arrested at the Kahatudwa barrier.

The person had entered the Expressway by removing the mesh at the sixth Kilometre milestone and had walked towards the Police barrier, the Police said.

The suspect had told the Police that he had spent the night at his friend’s house and had come to the Expressway to go to his house. The Police said that the suspect is a drug addict and is a resident of Kahatuduwa Old Road.
