Horana acting magistrate A.D. Francis remanded a pre-school matron for allegedly causing injury to a five and half year old child through negligence.

Investigations revealed that the matron had given a hot glass of cow's milk to the child and it had tumbled over on the child's lap causing injury to the child.

The Rupavahini State Awards Ceremony which was to be held at the Nelum Pokuna Mahinda Rajapaksa Theatre today has been postponed due to unavoidable reasons, a Cultural Affairs Ministry spokesman said.

Remembering Philippines national hero

The 115th anniversary commemoration of Philippines national hero Dr. Jose P. Rizal will be held at the 'Rizal Suite' of the Grand Oriental Hotel, Fort, Colombo today.

Dr. Rizal stayed at the hotel on May 18, 1882 during one of his four visits to Ceylon at that time between 1882 to 1896.

Dr. Rizal died at the age of 35.

Filipinos all over the world remember him today.

The 122nd birth anniversary of Alhaj Dr. T.B. Jayah and Hari Bahasa Melayu Hijri 1433 will be held under the patronage of Malaysian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Azmi Zainuddin on January 1 at 9.30 a.m at the Gaffoor Hall Zahira College, Colombo 10.

Mulsim Religious and Cultural Affairs Ministry former secretary S.H.M. Jameel will deliver the Dr. T.B. Jayah Oration.

Winners of the competitions held in connection with Hari Bahasa Melayu (Malay Language Day) will also receive prizes.
