Minister inspects renovated tanks:
Instructions to solve problems soon
Traditional Industries and Small Enterprise Development Minister
Douglas Devananda inspected the newly constructed and renovated
reservoirs and anicuts under Uthuru Vasanthaya programme in Velanai
Pradeshiya Sabha area recently and gave instructions to officials to
solve problems that may come up.
The minister inspected the drains constructed by the Department of
Irrigation for flow of rain water in the area of Denzil Kobbekaduwa
monument in Kayts, Arali Point, and then proceeded to inspect the newly
constructed reservoir near old Vairavar Kovil.
He instructed the officers to test the water for salinity content,
after which he had a discussion with the officials as to what action was
needed to be taken had there been a seepage of salt water into the
reservoir.
The minister also inspected the dredged lake near Velanai town and
many other small lakes recently renovated in the area later.
All the people who came to meet the minister from the area said it
was the first time in their lives that they saw all tanks in the area
filled with water and thanked the minister and the President for the
efforts taken to fulfill their pledges. They also requested the minister
to solve their drinking water problem as well as to supply them
electricity as early as possible. The minister in response said that too
would be provided soon. |
