Deyata Kirula development programme:
A'pura water projects to be completed

The Water Supply and Drainage Ministry has drawn up a plan to fulfill
the water necessity in Anuradhapura parallel to the Deyata Kirula
development programme.
The ministry expects around 500,000 people to visit the Deyata Kirula
exhibition. Around 2,000 cubic metres of water will be utilized daily
during this period, Water Supply and Drainage Minister Dinesh
Gunawardana said.
The ministry has estimated that around Rs 600 million will be spent
to complete all water supply projects in the Anuradhapura area.
It has drawn up a plan to build a water purification centre at the
Oyamaduwa area. The ministry will also build three water tanks each with
a capacity of 80 cubic metres, he said.
The ministry has targeted to use the Talawa Oya as the main water
resource for this project in the first stage. In the second stage, the
Mahavilachchiya Wewa will be the major water resource.
The ministry has also drawn up a plan to build tube wells in the
premises of the Deyata Kirula exhibition, he said.
A number of small scale and medium scale water supply projects will
be implemented covering the Anuradhapura district.
A number of programmes will be implemented to provide purified
drinking water, sanitation facilities and develop health facilities for
residents in the area, he said.
Environment and enterprise development programmes have also been
planned under these projects, he said. |
